Modern Day Satire
Last night was officially the first day of winter, although it’s felt pretty damn cold and wet for the past
month.  Last night was also the last Scented Vinyl of 2009; ending a three-year period of sessions nearly
every Monday night and beginning a short break for the show.  We’ll be back in the spring with a lot to look
forward too.  There are a number of new local albums that I’m excited about for 2010, and I’m really
pumped to get things going again next year.

I’m glad we got to end this year with Modern Day Satire, although I wish I would have brought some more
lights up to the café, we had no decorations for this one!  Modern Day Satire is a relatively new band, coming
out of Ankeny High School.  I’ve had a lot of High School bands on the show, but I believe this was the first
from Ankeny.  MDS released their debut album this past weekend; I can’t pronounce the name of it though.
Download the interview to hear me try; we talk all about the album, the music and more...this was also the
first session recorded to analog, which was cool.

We had some great albums to play for this cold night at Mars, the band brought in three that I’ve never had
on the show before, which was really surprising because one was OK Computer and the other was the latest
Death Cab For Cutie album.  Hours before the show I received the latest record from Jack White’s Third
Man Records Vault, so I just couldn’t wait to put on my new Raconteurs Live from London album.  I loved
the music this week; here is what we played...

The Raconteurs – Live in London
Death Cab For Cutie – Narrow Stairs
Copeland – You Are My Sunshine
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – Some Loud Thunder
Radiohead – OK Computer
Megafaun – Gather, Form & Fly
Mountain Goats – This Life and the World to Come
Envy Corps – Story Problem 7”
Flaming Lips – Embryonic
Kings of Leon – Youth & Young Manhood
