This session with Ryan Sheeler was my last before a short break for Thanksgiving, actually my first
extended break in nearly 2 years. So I was looking forward to some weeks off, and I think everybody at the
Sonic Factory was too (which is why this session has been posted late). But I was also looking forward to
this session; Ryan was excited to be on the show and even more excited to bring in some of his old albums.
That always makes me happy when I’m heading up to the café.
Ryan was actually the first guest that I’ve had email me a list of the records they were planning on bringing,
it was great! Knowing what he was going to bring helped me decided what records I could bring to
compliment his selections. The music wasn’t typical for a night at Mars Café, but fit the mode perfectly.
Here is what we played…
Elton John - Honkey Chateau
Megafaun - Gather, Form, Fly
George Benson - Breezen
The Ventures - Best of
Dan Fogelberg - Windows and Walls
John Denver - Greatest Hits
Larry Carlton - Sleepwalk
Envy Corps - Dwell
I’ve noticed that the Des Moines area has quite the collection of coffee shops, and artists that play them.
Sometimes I refer to it as the “Coffee Shop Circuit”. Ryan Sheeler is one of those musicians; I’ve had many
others on the show as well. They all seem to have one thing in common, that is they love to play live
whenever and wherever the can. Ryan has played Mars Café before, and will be back for sure. Check out
the interview to find out all about the albums he’s released, and why it took him so long to step into the
singer/songwriter role he’s always wanted.
