Things are finally coming together for the eventual podcast of Scented Vinyl, each week the Sonic Factory
guys and I get a little better at the process. This week we’ve added an intro and outro to the show; almost
turning the program into a real life radio show. Each week the quality gets better, and on weeks like this the
music completes the package.
Roxi Copland has been playing around Iowa in various forms for the past few years, whether with her band,
trio or as a solo performer. This week we got the solo side of Roxi, and it was great to hear songs off her
“Streetwise” ep stripped down to just keys and vocals. Roxi also played a brand new song, which will
hopefully appear on her follow up ep due later this year. Download the songs and the interview to find out
more about a great Des Moines singer/songwriter.
After recording at Sonic Factory, we as usual headed straight to Mars Café to get into some albums. Roxi
doesn’t own any vinyl (yet), so the music of the night was left up to me, which is always fun. It was a
Monday night filled with my favorites, i.e. William Elliott Whitmore and Nick Cave. I also had a new ep from
The Dead Weather, but it was completely warmed due to the heat of Bonnaroo, so we didn’t play it. Here is
what we did play…
Zwan – Mary Star of the Sea
Broken Social Scene Presents Brendan Canning
Rolling Stones – Some Girls
Bob Dylan – Live at Budokan
Velvet Underground w/ Nico
White Stripes – Elephant
William Elliott Whitmore – Ashes to Dust
Nick Cave – No More Shall We Part
Led Zeppelin – I
Dave Pajo – Scream With Me
