My special guest, Rodeo Drive, and I tossed around some ideas on how we could theme up our show; but neither one of us had an American Flag denim shirt…so we opted for great records, and songs dedicated to our founding fathers. Aaron Calvin is one of a number of young singer/songwriters around Des Moines. I’ve had on multiple bands from High Schools all around Central Iowa and they all seem to know or work with each other in one way or another. Rodeo Drive is simply what Aaron calls himself while playing solo, but he’s looking to expand into a full band before recording an album later this year. We talk all about that, and what it’s like being a young musician in Des Moines during the interview…
I’m always having people come up during the show who seem so surprised that we have vinyl, and that musicians still put out records. Then they seem even more surprised to find out that most of the records we have are new, beautiful pieces of art. This week we really proved it by playing all music put out post 2000. Aaron (Rodeo Drive) had some wonderful albums, which helped set a nice mood in the café…some of them I was really jealous of!
