I was glad we were able to do one last session for the summer, because it’s been an exciting summer for
the show, with special sessions from Dick Prall, Radio Moscow and Josh Davis. I also started the summer
with one child and I’m ending it with two, so the whole thing has been pretty nice. It’s fitting that we
ended the season with a session from Josh’s former driver turned singer/Songwriter, Ben Wanland.
Ben has been involved in our music scene for quite sometime, however he has only been actually playing
for about a year and a half. He got his start by touring and working with bands on Authentic Records, such
as The Josh Davis Band and Towncrier. At some point along the way he decided to “start telling his own
stories and piecing together his own chords”. We talk all about it during the interview…
One of my favorite customers in the mornings at Mars Café tips me with old albums; I know, it’s a nice
tip. This week he brought me in an album by Steve Forbert, who at one time was labeled (like many others)
the “next Bob Dylan”. Off the album Jackrabbit Slim, we played what proved to be Forebert’s only
successful song, Romeo’s Tune. Ben supplied a little Outlaw Country from Waylon, and some John
Denver; but the rest was up to me. Here is what we played…
Bruce Springsteen – Nebraska
Bruce Springsteen – Greetings From Ashbury Park
Wilco – Yankee Foxtrot Hotel
Waylon Jennings – Greatest Hits
John Denver’s – Greatest Hits
Steve Forbert – Jackrabbit Slim
Weezer – Blue Album
Radio Moscow – Brain Cycles
Arcade Fire – Keep the Car Running 7”
Tom Waits – Heart of Saturday Night
Black Angels – Directions to See A Ghost
