Austin May
Interview / Songs
Austin May doesn’t perform live all that often, in fact he didn’t even play for the Scented Vinyl session.  His
last show was in February of this year.  Instead, Austin and his wife Cassie have been dedicating time to their
label Sleep On The Floor Records and the artists that are on it.  They recently released one of my favorite
local albums of the year by Why Make Clocks; and are getting ready to release a new Austin May album, his
fifth.

"Dreamlike" is going to come out in the middle of November, he wrote, recorded, produced and is releasing
this album on his own, like all of his albums.  Although this one is special to Austin, it's an album that has
taken him the better part of 5 years to finish and release.  We talk all about the music, the label and why he
doesn’t play live that much, during the interview.

This was the very first session, in almost three years, in which we played every record that I brought up to
the show.  More often then not, we have dozens and dozens of albums to choose from.  Austin however
doesn’t have any records, so I picked all the music of the night.  Luckily I was in Chicago and Iowa City over
the weekend, so I had some new ones to bring out.  Including an album by Megafaun, a group that I’ve been
in love with this year.  Here is what we played…

William Elliott Whitmore – Animals in the Dark
Wilco – S/T
Megafaun – Gather, Form & Fly
Bob Dylan – Together Through Life
Devendra Banhart – Smoky Rolls Down Thunder Canyon
Silver Jews – Tanglewood Numbers
George Harrison – All Things Must Pass
Sufjan Stevens – Illinois
Weezer – Make Believe
Weezer – Pinkerton
Cat Stevens – Izitso
Nick Cave – First Born is Dead
Arcade Fire – 45”
Poison Control Center – When the World Sleeps 45”
