Since I started this website over a year ago, I've always had this extra menu page that I just haven't decided what to do with. I've
thought about using it as a store, but I have nothing to sell. I've also thought about using it as a photo album, but the pictures are already
everywhere. So then I thought about using it to help sell the products of my other interests, such as pearl diving, not really.
I've actually just decided to start keeping track of the comings and goings of my day to day life. I'll probably be posting mostly about
music, since I love it; but I just might keep you informed on the rest of my life as well. I'm not huge into writing, so don't be surprised if
you find some spelling errors, (thanks Madrid schools). I'm an avid reader, so it surprises me that I can be such a poor writer, but hey
that's life.
Right now I'm home with my son, typing well he plays Star Wars Legos on the Wii. It's time to get outside though with the dog. I really
want to mention my trip to Bonnaroo last week, but I'll talk about it next time. For now I'll leave with...
I'm excited to see The Flaming Lips next week...really really excited!!! Not only them, but Andrew Bird, Black Francis, Jakob Dylan,
Drive-By Truckers, the Poison Control Center, Maxilla Blue, the Envy Corps and more...the 80/35 Festival is going to be the greatest
weekend of music in Des Moines, ever.

So we are down to what, 9 days and counting. The 80/35 Festival is going to be so good for Des Moines; I mean this is your chance
to see some of the best bands touring right now, all at the same time. Personally I'm most excited to see Andrew Bird and the Flaming
Lips, even though I've seen them both a number of times. They are among my favorite and certainly won't disappoint.
Here is a video I took of Andrew Bird playing in Ceder Rapids a few years back, it was among many free Andrew Bird shows I've
attended. I have a couple more from the Minnesota Zoo and Grinnell last year, so I might post those at some point as well.

Last night I had a choice, The Wailers inside at People's, or Public Property outside at the Arts Fest. I had my son with me, so we
decided to wait for the rain to end and go see Public Property, one of my favorite local bands. I glad we made the decision we did, for
it was a great night to be in the Capital City. Although I can't help but think about what I missed at People's, the crowd at the Arts
Fest was perfect!! I drank an Old Main brew, and bought my son six dollars worth of blended ice and bananas.
I love this time of year. Last night well I was walking around Gateway Park, I just kept thinking...Next weekend in this very spot will
be Andrew Bird, the Flaming Lips, Jakob Dylan and every one of my favorite local bands. The 80/35 Festival is going to be amazing!!
Plus they have a kids village, so my son will enjoy it too!
Radio Moscow is playing the 80/35 and I can't wait to catch them again, my son is looking forward to it too...
Well, I meant to do some blogging before and maybe during the 80/35 Festival this past weekend, but it just didn't happen, so I'll have
to catch up just a bit now.
First off, I called it the greatest weekend ever for Des Moines music, and of course I was right. My Fourth of July started early, I
headed down to Western Gateway Park hoping to get a glimpse of the Flaming Lips sound check. I was pretty sure that I would see
headed down to Western Gateway Park hoping to get a glimpse of the Flaming Lips sound check. I was pretty sure that I would see
they were going to try and set up around 8 am, so I was down there at 7:30. I suppose before I go too much further I should mention
something cool, I just wasn't sure what. The day before I interviewed Wayne Coyne of the Lips on the phone, and he notified me that
that the phone interview was the highlight of my short radio career, we talked for a half hour about pretty much everything: Bonnaroo
Sigur Ros, Slipknot, Spongebob, it was great...he even talked w/ my son for a minute!
So the next morning when I awoke, I felt sure I would get to say hi in person. It was pretty cool, I got to stand in the crowd of about
15 people and watch the Lips play "Free Radicals" and a cover of "Song Remains the Same", not only that I was standing next to
another 1/2 hour, it was amazing (but it gets better). I got my Yohimi vinyl signed and was off to explore. This led me to the
Teletubbie tent behind the main stage and a wonderful construction worker named Jake. He was in charge of the Teletubbies for the
evening and was more then happy to hook me up with a couple of dancer passes.
All day long I just didn't believe it would happen, I mean, me on stage with the Flaming Lips, yeah right. Well it did happen, and was
one of the greatest evenings of my life!!! My wife and I were the only tubbies on stage to dance through the entire set, it was truly
surreal. Confetti was flying, giant balloons were floating and there we were; a purple and red teletubbie with giant flash lights standing
right next to Michael Ivins...It was AMAZING!!!! I'll right more about my 80/35 experience later...

Note: I'm not a great speller and sometimes my grammer isn't so great, but this is what it's like when I think...I think

I took a few pictures, they are a little blurry, but that's pretty much the way it felt.

We got a couple of kittens the other day, that's right a couple. Long story short, I went to pick up one cat and left with two. They are pretty much
the cutest kittens ever. One is all white with an orange tail, and the other is black and has six toes on each of it's front paws, which is pretty funny.
We haven't named them yet, we just can't think of anything good. I suggest Jariann, after the weather lady on 13, but my wife shot it down, she said
the cat just couldn't live up to the firecracker image of Jarianne. I'm sure we'll think of something, for now it's Furry Britches 1 and Furry Britches 2.

I'm pretty pumped for the Capital Backyard BBQ tonight!! Dick Prall and The Envy Corps outside at Simon Estes, it's the
river to start blowing up beach balls for tonight...
I named our cat's, Hairy Britches and Bonnie Prince Britches. They are both fine and happy; although Hairy had to get a
worm cut out of his neck. It's a long story and a gross one, so I'll leave the details up to your imagination.
I just bought the new My Morning Jacket album on vinyl yesterday at ZZZ Records and it actually came with a cd! I really
like that! This album is definitely a leading canidate for my album of the year on my list.
I'm going to get the new David Sadaris book this weekend, I want to make sure to read it before seeing him at the Civic
Center. If it's as good as his past books, I'll be happy to take a break from my historical fiction streak.
Xavier Rudd has a new album coming out, and I'm pumped!!!!!
That's all for now...

I went to Minnesota this weekend and it was great!! I stayed with my brother and his wife, so it was extra cool. We went and saw the new Star Wars
with my son, went and saw the Handsome Furs at the 7th. St. Entry, and stayed in a cabin on one of the "10,000 Lakes". I would post pictures from the
weekend, but I dropped my camera in the lake, so I can't.
The new Slipknot album comes out in a week, and I'm super excited! I'm also pumped for the new Dylan Bootleg Series Vol. 8. It's going to feature all
music from the past 15 years, which happens to be my favorite Dylan era.
That new Metallica album looks awful, just plain awful. I mean Unforgiven III. If I happen apon free tickets I might go see them at Wells Fargo, but that
show already has two strikes on it, shitty band, giant shitty venue. Give me the Handsome Furs in a shitty bar any day of the week.
Not my picture, but thanks to whoever took it.

There are some great concerts coming up, more then usual it seems. Here are some that I will be attending in the next couple of months...My Morning
Concerts are pretty much my favorite thing to do, ever.
September 1st, 2008
My birthday is on September 4th, so I'm pretty excited this week. Although I'm turning 27, so it doesn't seem like it's going to be on of those sweet
hoping to double up on the Court Ave. Brewing Co., I've got to put my mug to use!
I'm also kind of hoping to get a record player from someone....last night was not short of a disaster for my show. We got to the studio at about 6:30,
and due to some miscommunication, which was probably all my fault, no one was there. That's fine, I said, we'll just go and play some more records. I
continue to set up the cafe for the show with my specials guests Otter, who drove all the way down from Ames, when disaster struck. I was getting
the record player down from it's top shelf, and BOOM! It slid out of my hands and shattered on the ground, while somehow managing to make me
bleed on it's way. The record player is all but shot, so we had to cancel the show, which was a major bummer as Byron brought down some killer
records; I remember seeing Syd Barrett, Radiohead and the Talking Heads, so I can't wait to get this one rescheduled!!
September 7th, 2008
Record player update: I went to Audio Labs on Ingersoll on Saturday to see what could be done with my record player, thinking it would cost me
more than I had. Well, it didn't. For the low low price of 15 dollars and about 15 minutes, my record player was fixed!
I will forever go to Audio Labs for all my audio needs, and I suggest you do to. Great service!!!

been destroyed by water, so now we need a new furnace which of course isn't cheap. And now
today, I had to go to the dentist for what I would call my worst ever dentist expierence.
I've needed my teeth cleaned for quite sometime, but thanks to no dental insurance I haven't
been really quick to go. Well, we decided it was time, and boy was it time. I had my teeth and
gums scraped for almost a solid hour! It felt like getting tattoos on my gums; she was using
some high powered water drill. I was told I could come back and get numbed up, but that would
involve another appointment and more money. So I decided to just do it.
Anyways...I'm excited for my show tonight with Fat Andy. And for the new Kings of Leon
album coming out tomorrow. They are one of my favorite bands ever, we played one of their
songs at our wedding four years ago and have seen them five times since. I can't wait for
November 1st to see them again in Minnesota. I took this picture four years ago at a small club
in Kansas City.
I get to see William Elliot Whitmore and Nick Cave this weekend...so it's going to be a great one!
Last weekend was one of the greatest concert going weekends in
my life. First, we headed to Iowa City to see two of my favorites,
David Zollo and William Elliott Whitmore. We met some friends
and headed up to the show, on the way we realized that it was
home coming and Chuck Berry and Rooney were playing. So we
went and saw some of that, which seemed really random. Then
down to the Picador and Will Whitmore!
I really like the Picador for shows, I'm going to see the Silver Jews
Whitmore there, it gets crazy. I think it's because people like to
drink Whiskey at his shows. I just like to stand right up front w/ a
BPR, but that just doesn't fly sometimes. So after my wife got
some beer dumped on her, we decided to just go and stand aways
back. The show was sweet, and his new songs are amazing!! I
can't wait for a new album next year.
We slept in a friend of a friends house and woke up early to drive
to Chicago and see Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, who I must say
is in my top three favorite artists of all time, probably number 2
behind Dylan. I've always wanted to see him live, but to do that
you must travel. Luckily my older brother Matt recently moved to
Chicago, to one of the coolest neighborhoods around, Wicker
Park. He has a crazy cat though, so we didn't stay home that
much, it really is psycho, but soft and cute!
Nick Cave played on Sunday, in one of the coolest venues I've
ever been in, the Riviera Theatre. I will definitely go back to that
place as much as possible, despite the 6 dollar high lifes. Nick
Cave was better the I ever could have imagined, it's hard to really
even describe, I guess I would use the word intense.

Omaha. This show was one in a string of sweet shows this month. We had Ben Kweller on Sunday, the Silver
Jews last week and Kings of Leon to go!
Last night the show was great, but it's hard not to look a the clock when you have a 2 hour ride home. One
surprise for the evening was the lead singer of the opening band blew his voice or something. So instead of an
opening act, Brandon Canning of BSS had a turntable out in the crowd and was playing vinyl, just like I do. So I
went and said hello, which was really cool.
The ride home was a rough one. We were both really tired and it was raining the whole time. About half way
home; we're driving, talking, and all of a sudden there is a HUGE deer right in front of us, probably 25 feet. Well,
Stevie didn't know not to veer or deer, so she swerved and went onto the shoulder then whipped it back around
some how managing not to flip the car and we were on the opposite shoulder. I don't know how we avoided a
serious accident, it was really scary.
I'm excited to watch the debates tonight, but more excited to watch the new Office tomorrow!

This is one of my all time favorite
musicians, and he happens to be from
Iowa! I even have a tattoo of a banjo
that he drew. William Elliott
Whtimore's new album is coming out
in February, and I think the name of it
is "Animals in the Dark". I couldn't
be more excited, he played some of
the new songs at his last show in
Iowa City and they are incredible.
Here is a video of him playing at The
Picador, probably the craziest place to
see him play. The crowd's always get
pretty wild, I'm up front in this one
somewhere...
November 15th 2008
Last night I got to see a movie that I've been waiting years to see, the Flaming Lips "Christmas on Mars". I must say, it didn't disappoint. The movie is of course totally weird, so if you like the Lips, you'll love it.

We have three cats, a dog and a 6 year old son...our house is pretty much a
zoo most of the time. We love it. Except when one of the animals brings in
bugs, and the bugs are fleas. It was brought to our attention yesterday that
our small white cat, and our 24 toed cat both have fleas!!!
These are among the most disgusting bugs on the face of the earth, you
can see them and when you do you can't catch them. We had to wash the
cats over and over again, buy some Frontline, which isn't cheap, and
completely sterilize our house. This includes multiple bug bombs, and deep
carpet/furniture cleaning.
The only fleas I like are the one's that play in bands. I thought I heard
Californication coming off of the furry britches butt, but it wasn't.
